Random Study #2
METHOD
Upon some contemplation of my first study on the Koran, I
decided to do a better, bigger study.
Due to some complaints that the original Koran I drew from was from an
Islamic site; that taking verse 10 introduced some kind of bias; and the fact
that my confidence interval was not very right, I performed a bigger study.
I took the verses I used from a pro-Islamic site this
time. I took it from http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/
I took the translation from "Shakir."
However, I drew
from several translations to make sense of some verses that were confusing, and
I make mention of what I did. For
instance, in one verse it used the word, “poor,” but that can either mean financially
poor or poor quality. Another
translation used “hapless,” which helped to clarify.
I wanted at least 200 samples. There are 114 Suras in the Koran, all different sizes. What is the most
diplomatic way to take a random sample?
There are about 6100 verses in the Koran. I could go in
and take every 30th verse, giving me about 200 verses. But some Suras in the Koran are only 9 verses long and I didn't want
to completely skip a Sura. After all, if it's given it's own Sura, it must have some
important message.
So I did it exactly the way our Congress is set up. I
took one verse from each sura thereby representing
each Sura. I took the verse right smack in the
middle. That gave me 114.
Then I decided I wanted about 86 more. To get those, I
decided I would take every Xth verse from the Koran.
This would naturally give the larger suras more of a
representation. I rounded down a little to give me more verses just in case I
had repeats and ended up taking every 70th verse.
This gave me a total of 201 verses.
Here they are, followed by the breakdown and the
calculation of the confidence interval.
RANDOM GENERATION OF QUOTES FROM
THE KORAN (201 TOTAL)
1: 4 Master of the Day of Judgment.
2:143 And thus We have made you a medium (just) nation that you may be the bearers of witness to the people and (that) the Messenger may be a bearer of witness to you; and We did not make that which you would have to be the qiblah but that We might distinguish him who follows the Messenger from him who turns back upon his heels, and this was surely hard except for those whom Allah has guided aright; and Allah was not going to make your faith to be fruitless; most surely Allah is Affectionate, Merciful to the people. NOTE: They appoint this “nation” to watch if people turn their back on Allah or not. This is information to be used on the Day of Judgment / Doom.
3: 100 O you who
believe! if you obey a party from among those who have
been given the Book, they will turn you back as unbelievers after you have
believed. NOTE: And after this, it warns against it for their
will be an awful doom for nonbelivers.
4:88 What is the matter with you, then, that you
have become two parties about the hypocrites, while Allah has made them return
(to unbelief) for what they have earned? Do you wish to guide him whom Allah
has caused to err? And whomsoever Allah causes to err, you shall by no means
find a way for him. Note: Notice that Allah causes them to not
believe.
5:60 Say: Shall I inform you of (him who is) worse than this in retribution from Allah? (Worse is he) whom Allah has cursed and brought His wrath upon, and of whom He made apes and swine, and he who served the Shaitan; these are worse in place and more erring from the straight path.
6:83 And this was Our argument which we gave to Ibrahim against his people; We exalt in dignity whom We please; surely your Lord is Wise, Knowing.
7:103 Then we raised after them Musa with Our communications to Firon and his chiefs, but they disbelieved in them; consider then what was the end of the mischief makers.
9: 65 And if you should question them, they would certainly say: We were only idly discoursing and sporting. Say: Was it at Allah and His communications and His Messenger that you mocked? NOTE: It goes on to say, for this, hell for them.
11:62 They said: O Salih! surely you were one amongst us in whom great expectations were placed before this; do you (now) forbid us from worshipping what our fathers worshipped? And as to that which you call us to, most surely we are in disquieting doubt. NOTE: They were doubtful of Allah as stated in this verse. Then they were told not to harm a camel. They did so they were “ruined.”
12:56 And thus did We give to Yusuf power in the land-- he had mastery in it wherever he liked; We send down Our mercy on whom We please, and We do not waste the reward of those who do good.
13: 22 And those who are constant, seeking the pleasure of their Lord, and keep up prayer and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them secretly and openly and repel evil with good; as for those, they shall have the (happy) issue of the abode
16:64 And We have not revealed to you the Book except that you may make clear to them that about which they differ, and (as) a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.
18:55 And nothing prevents men from believing when the guidance comes to them, and from asking forgiveness of their Lord, except that what happened to the ancients should overtake them, or that the chastisement should come face to face with them.
20: 68 We said: Fear
not, surely you shall be the uppermost, NOTE: This is God telling Moses not to fear, as he
will help him kill nonbelievers.
24:32 And marry those among you who are single and those who are fit among your male slaves and your female slaves; if they are needy, Allah will make them free from want out of His grace; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.
25:39 And to every one We gave examples and every one did We destroy with utter destruction.
26:114 And I am not going to drive away the believers;
27:47 They said: We have met with ill luck on account of you and on account of those with you. He said: The cause of your evil fortune is with Allah; nay, you are a people who are tried.
28:44 And you were
not on the western side when We revealed to Musa the
commandment, and you were not among the witnesses; NOTE: Muhammad was note there when they told Moses
to destroy generations.
29:35 And certainly We have left a clear sign of it for a people who understand. NOTE: It says they have left a clear sign to people to justify destroying an entire city.
30:30 Then set your face upright for religion in the right state-- the nature made by Allah in which He has made men; there is no altering of Allah's creation; that is the right religion, but most people do not know--
31:17 O my son! keep up prayer and enjoin the good and forbid the evil, and bear patiently that which befalls you; surely these acts require courage;
32:15 Only they believe in Our communications who, when they are reminded of them, fall down in prostration and celebrate the praise of their Lord, and they are not proud.
33:37 And when you said to him to whom Allah had shown favor
and to whom you had shown a favor: Keep your wife to yourself and be careful of
(your duty to) Allah; and you concealed in your soul what Allah would bring to
light, and you feared men, and Allah had a greater right that you should fear
Him. But when Zaid had accomplished his want of her,
We gave her to you as a wife, so that there should be no difficulty for the
believers in respect of the wives of their adopted sons, when they have
accomplished their want of them; and Allah's command shall be performed. NOTE: Mohammed is given a wife to show that it is
acceptable to marry your adopted son’s ex-wife.
Notice how the wife has no choice and also how self-serving the Koran is
to Mohammed.
34:27 Say: Show me those whom you have joined with Him as associates; by no means (can you do it). Nay! He is Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.
35:23 You are naught but a warner. NOTE:
A warner against doom, which it then says
befall on nonbelievers.
36:42 And We have created for them the like of it, what they will ride on. NOTE: This is in reference to people who mock Allah’s prophets, even though they’ve seen “generations” before them being destroyed. Afterwards, it says they will drown them if they will.
37:41 For them is a known sustenance, NOTE: Deals with what believers will get in heave,
including a promise of virgins
38:44 And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with It and do not break your oath; surely We found him patient; most excellent the servant! Surely he was frequent m returning (to Allah).
39:38 And should you ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? They would most certainly say: Allah. Say: Have you then considered that what you call upon besides Allah, would they, if Allah desire to afflict me with harm, be the removers of His harm, or (would they), if Allah desire to show me mercy, be the withholders of His mercy? Say: Allah is sufficient for me; on Him do the reliant rely.
40:43 No doubt that what you call me to has no title to be called to in this world, nor in the hereafter, and that our turning back is to Allah, and that the extravagant are the inmates of the fire;
41:27 Therefore We will most certainly make those who disbelieve taste a severe punishment, and We will most certainly reward them for the evil deeds they used to do.
42:27 Allah should amplify the provision for His servants they would certainly revolt in the earth; but He sends it down according to a measure as He pleases; surely He is Aware of, Seeing, His servants.
43:45 And ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent Allah? NOTE: It is asking them what Allah is, because it says they told them who Allah was but the disbelievers scoffed at the messenger. Therefore, a “chastisement” for them.
44:30 And certainly We delivered the children of
45:19 Surely they shall not avail you in the least against Allah; and surely the unjust are friends of each other, and Allah is the guardian of those who guard (against evil).
46:18 These are they against whom the word has proved true among nations of the jinn and the men that have already passed away before them; surely they are losers.
47:19 So know that there is no god but Allah, and, ask protection for your fault and for the believing men and the believing women; and Allah knows the place of your returning and the place of your abiding.
48:15 Those who are left behind will say when you set
forth for the gaining of acquisitions: Allow us (that) we may follow you. They
desire to change the world of Allah. Say: By no means shall you follow us; thus
did Allah say before. But they will say: Nay! you are
jealous of us. Nay! they do not understand but a
little.
49:9 And if two parties of the believers quarrel, make peace between them; but if one of them acts wrongfully towards the other, fight that which acts wrongfully until it returns to Allah's command; then if it returns, make peace between them with justice and act equitably; surely Allah loves those who act equitably.
50:23 And his companions shall say: This is what is ready with me NOTE: His “companion” says to the “evil doer” that he has his record and it is to hell with him.
51:30 They said: Thus says your Lord: Surely He is the Wise, the Knowing.
52:25 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. NOTE: This is couched in a story about a family of believers who Allah was therefore good to.
53:31 And Allah's is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil according to what they do, and (that) He may reward those who do good with goodness.
54:28 And inform them that the water is shared between them; every share of the water shall be regulated. NOTE: The nonbelievers were to share water with the camel. They killed the camel therefore were killed.
55:39 So on that day neither man nor jinni shall be asked about his sin.
56:48 Or our fathers of yore? NOTE: The disbelievers ask if they and their fathers will go to heaven. The answer is a clear no.
57:15 So today ransom shall not be accepted from you nor from those who disbelieved; your abode is the fire; it is your friend and evil is the resort.
58:11 O ye who believe! when it is said unto you, Make room! in assemblies, then make room; Allah will make way for you (hereafter). And when it is said, Come up higher! go up higher; Allah will exalt those who believe among you, and those who have knowledge, to high ranks. Allah is Informed of what ye do.
59:12 Certainly if these are driven forth, they will not
go forth with them, and if they are fought against, they will not help them,
and even if they help-them, they will certainly turn (their) backs, then they
shall not be helped. NOTE: From what I gather in this verse,
disbelievers promise to help other disbelievers but they never do.
60:7 It may be that Allah will bring about friendship between
you and those whom you hold to be your enemies among them; and Allah is
Powerful; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
NOTE: It says that
Allah “may” bring forth friendship between Muslims and their enemies, but this
is only after a long spiel about not taking enemies as friends. It says that those who have not made “war on
your religion” can be taken as friends.
61:7 And who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah and he is invited to Islam, and Allah does not guide the unjust people.
62:6 Say: O you who are Jews, if you think that you are the favorites of Allah to the exclusion of other people, then invoke death If you are truthful.
63:6 It is alike to them whether you beg forgiveness for them or do not beg forgiveness for them; Allah will never forgive them; surely Allah does not guide the transgressing people.
64:9 On the day that He will gather you for the day of gathering, that is the day of loss and gain; and whoever believes in Allah and does good, He will remove from him his evil and cause him to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein forever; that is the great achievement.
65:6 Lodge them where you lodge according to your means, and
do not injure them in order that you may straiten them; and if they are
pregnant, spend on them until they lay down their burden; then if they suckle
for you, give them their recompense and enjoin one another among you to do
good; and if you disagree, another (woman) shall suckle for him. NOTE: Deals with the proper way to divorce a woman. Notice it tells men how to perform a divorce
in a just way but not how to be a good husband.
66:6 O you who
believe! save yourselves and your families from a fire
whose fuel is men and stones; over it are angels stern and strong, they do not
disobey Allah in what He commands them, and do as they are commanded.
67:15 He it is Who made the earth smooth for you, therefore go
about in the spacious sides thereof, and eat of His sustenance, and to Him is
the return after death.
68:26 But when they saw it, they said: Most surely we have gone astray NOTE: And for that, punishment.
69:26 And I had not known what my account was: NOTE: It is about a nonbeliever seeing his eternal torment, which is in hell eating filth, wishing he knew what was about to happen to him.
70:22 Except those who pray, NOTE: Those who pray will avoid the burning hell.
71:14 And indeed He has created you through various grades:
72:14 And that some of us are those who submit, and some of us are the deviators; so whoever submits, these aim at the right way:
73:10 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. NOTE: Bear with patience what the infidels utter for Allah will tie them up, burn them and feed them food that will choke them.
74:28 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. NOTE: The fire does not spare anyone.
75:20 Nay! But you love the present life, NOTE: Therefore, you will go to hell.
76:16 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure.
77:25 Have We not made the earth to draw together to itself, NOTE: Have we not made you, and the earth, and is this not proof of god? Woe to those who deny this on “that day.”
78:20 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance.
79:23 Then he
gathered (men) and called out. NOTE: This is couched in a story where Allah killed
a man for saying he himself was the Lord.
80:21 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave,
81:15 But nay! I swear by the stars, NOTE:
He swears by the stars that his previous statement, regarding the Day of
Doom, is true.
82:10 And most surely there are keepers over you NOTE: Who are keeping record of everything you do
for the Day of Judgment.
83:18 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. NOTE:
A record kept to be brought out on the Day of Judgment
84:13 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his
followers. NOTE: For this, he was
thrown into the fire.
85:11 Surely (as for) those who believe and do good, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow, that is the great achievement.
86:9 On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest, NOTE: Man will have no helper; and for their “plots” against Muhammad, Muhammad will plot against them but deal gently with them for “awhile.”
87:10 He who fears will mind,
88:13 Therein are thrones raised high,
89:15 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then
treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors
me. NOTE: Man only acknowledges
God’s judgment when it is good for man.
These same kind of men, it says, will go to
hell and be punished.
90:10 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous
ways? NOTE: They showed man the right way but he denied
it, so for him, fire.
91:8 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it;
92:11 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes.
93:6 Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?
94:4 And exalted for you your esteem?
95:4 Certainly We created man in the best make. NOTE: Man was made the best of the best, but then was made the low of low, and that is what men are except believers.
96:10 A servant when he prays? NOTE: This is in reference to “one who forbids” a “servant to pray” and so therefore they “smite(d) his forehead.”
97:3 The grand night is better than a thousand months. NOTE: This is a “night of predestination” in which
angels come down with “all decress.” Seeing as this dishes
out who will go to heaven and who will go to hell, I put it in the “Day of
Judgment” category.
98:4 And those who were given the Book did not become divided except after clear evidence had come to them.
99:4 On that day she shall tell her news, NOTE: “Her” appears to be the earth, who on the day
of doom will deliver good things to believers and destruction to nonbelievers.
100:6 Most surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.
101:6 Then as for him whose measure of good deeds is heavy, NOTE: He is who heavy with good deeds will be spared “the calamity” where all of man-kind will be “thickly scattered moths” and whose mothers will be “hungry.”
102:4 Nay! Nay! you shall
soon know. NOTE: You will know that hell awaits you for living
this life and not submitting to Allah.
103:2 Most surely man is in loss,
104:5 And what will make you realize what the crushing disaster is?
105:3 And send down (to prey) upon them birds in
flocks,
106:2 Their protection during their trading caravans in the winter and the summer--
107:4 So woe to the praying ones,
108:2 Therefore pray to your Lord and make a sacrifice.
109:3 Nor do you serve Him Whom I serve:
110:2 And you see men entering the religion of Allah in companies,
111:3 He shall soon burn in fire that flames,
112:2 Allah is He on Whom all depend.
113:3 And from the evil of the utterly dark night when it comes, NOTE: Believers are taking refuge in Allah.
114:3 The god of men,
2:63 And when We took a promise from you and lifted the mountain over you: Take hold of the law (Tavrat) We have given you with firmness and bear in mind what is in it, so that you may guard (against evil).
2:133 Nay! were you witnesses when death visited Yaqoub, when he said to his sons: What will you serve after me? They said: We will serve your god and the god of your fathers, Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq, one Allah only, and to Him do we submit.
2:203 And laud Allah during the numbered days; then whoever hastens off in two days, there is no blame on him, and whoever remains behind, there is no blame on him, (this is) for him who guards (against evil), and be careful (of your duty) to Allah, and know that you shall be gathered together to Him.
2:273 (Alms are) for the poor who are confined in the way of Allah-- they cannot go about in the land; the ignorant man thinks them to be rich on account of (their) abstaining (from begging); you can recognise them by their mark; they do not beg from men importunately; and whatever good thing you spend, surely Allah knows it.
3:127 That He may cut off a portion from among those who disbelieve, or abase them so that they should return disappointed of attaining what they desired.
3:197 A brief enjoyment! then their abode is hell, and evil is the resting-place.
4:67 And then We would certainly have given them from Ourselves a great reward. NOTE: It is a reward for those who fight for Allah.
4:137 Surely (as for) those who believe then disbelieve, again believe and again disbelieve, then increase in disbelief, Allah will not forgive them nor guide them in the (right) path.
5:101 O you who believe! do not put questions about things which if declared to you may trouble you, and if you question about them when the Quran is being revealed, they shall be declared to you; Allah pardons this, and Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.
6:51 And warn with it those who fear that they shall be gathered to their Lord-- there is no guardian for them, nor any intercessor besides Him-- that they may guard (against evil).
6:121 And do not eat of that on which Allah's name has not been mentioned, and that is most surely a transgression; and most surely the Shaitans suggest to their friends that they should contend with you; and if you obey them, you shall most surely be polytheists.
7:86 And do not lie in wait in every path, threatening and turning away from Allah's way him who believes in Him and seeking to make it crooked; and remember when you were few then He multiplied you, and consider what was the end of the mischief-makers.
7:156 And ordain for us good in this world's life
and m the hereafter, for surely we turn to Thee. He said: (As for) My
chastisement, I will afflict with it whom I please, and My mercy encompasses
all things; so I will ordain it (specially) for those who guard (against evil)
and pay the poor-rate, and those who believe in Our communications.
9:85 And let not their property and their children
excite your admiration; Allah only wishes to chastise them with these in this
world and (that) their souls may depart while they are unbelievers
10:96 Surely those against whom the word of your Lord has proved true will not believe, NOTE; And, therefore, for them, painful doom.
11:57 But if you turn back, then indeed I have delivered to you the message with which I have been sent to you, and my Lord will bring another people in your place, and you cannot do Him any harm; surely my Lord is the Preserver of all things. NOTE: It says God will place the nonbelieving folk with believers and afterwards says it will destroy the believers.
12:4 When Yusuf said to his father: O my father! surely I saw eleven stars and the sun and the moon-- I saw them making obeisance to me.
12:74 They said: But what shall be the requital of this, if you are
liars? NOTE: I believe what is happening here is some
believers got wrongly accused of theft, but Allah was merciful towards them and
forgave them.
15:8 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would
not be respited.
15:78 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust.
16:119 Yet surely your Lord, with respect to those who
do an evil in ignorance, then turn after that and make amends, most surely your
Lord after that is Forgiving, Merciful.
17:61 And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance
to Adam; they made obeisance, but Iblis (did it not).
He said: Shall I make obeisance to him whom Thou hast created of dust?
18:90 Until when he reached the land of the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people to whom We had given no shelter from It;
20:92 (Musa) said: O Haroun! what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,
21:97 And the true promise shall draw nigh, then lo!
the eyes of those who disbelieved shall be fixedly
open: O woe to us! surely we were in a state of
heedlessness as to this; nay, we were unjust.
NOTE: The disbelievers will
state in terror what Allah has in store for them.
22:55 And those who disbelieve shall not cease to be in doubt concerning it until the hour overtakes them suddenly, or there comes on them the chastisement of a destructive day.
23:117 And whoever invokes with Allah another god-- he has no proof of this-- his reckoning is only with his Lord; surely the unbelievers shall not be successful.
25:5 And they say:
The stories of the ancients-- he has got them written-- so these are read out
to him morning and evening. NOTE: This verse is in reference to disbelievers,
who don’t believe the prophets coming to warn them about Allah. Because they disbelieve, they get hellfire.
25:75 These shall be rewarded with high places because they were patient, and shall be met therein with greetings and salutations.
26:68 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. NOTE: He is called powerful because he drowned nonbelievers.
26:138 And we are not going to be punished. NOTE: This is what disbelievers said, that they would not be punished. Because of this, they are then destroyed.
26:208 And We did not
destroy any town but it had (its) warners,
27:51 See, then, how was the end of their plan that We destroyed them and their people, all (of them).
28:28 He said: This shall be (an agreement) between me and you;
whichever of the two terms I fulfill, there shall be no wrongdoing to me; and
Allah is a witness of what we say. NOTE: About Moses, and makes reference to Allah not
doing any injustice to him.
29:10 And among men is he who says: We believe in Allah; but when he is persecuted in (the way of) Allah he thinks the persecution of men to be as the chastisement of Allah; and if there come assistance from your Lord, they would most certainly say: Surely we were with you. What! is not Allah the best knower of what is in the breasts of mankind.
30:11 Allah originates the creation, then
reproduces it, then to Him you shall be brought back. NOTE: Deals with the Day of Judgment: the day you die then supposedly stand before
Allah.
31:21 And when it is said to them: Follow what Allah has revealed, they say: Nay, we follow that on which we found our fathers. What! though the Shaitan calls them to the chastisement of the burning fire!
33:27 And He made you heirs to their land and their dwellings and their property, and (to) a land which you have not yet trodden, and Allah has power over all things. NOTE: It says that Allah killed and enslaved nonbelievers then gave to believers their houses.
34:24 Say: Who gives you the sustenance from the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah. And most surely we or you are on a right way or in manifest error
35:40 Say: Have you considered your associates which you call upon besides Allah? Show me what part of the earth they have created, or have they any share in the heavens; or, have We given them a book so that they follow a clear argument thereof? Nay, the unjust do not hold out promises one to another but only to deceive.
36:65 On that day We will set a seal upon their mouths, and their hands shall speak to Us, and their feet shall bear witness of what they earned.
37:52 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)?
38:40 And most surely he had a nearness to Us and an excellent resort. NOTE: It is praising a man who was close to God, who then goes on to beat his wife, much to Allah’s delight.
39:22 What! is he whose heart Allah has opened for Islam so that he is in a light from his Lord (like the hard-hearted)? Nay, woe to those whose hearts are hard against the remembrance of Allah; those are in clear error.
40:17 This day every soul shall be rewarded for what it has earned; no injustice (shall be done) this day; surely Allah is quick in reckoning. NOTE: It goes on to describe “this day” in the next verse when the “wrong doers” will have their “hearts choking in their throat” and will “have no friends.”
41:2 A revelation from the Beneficent, the Merciful Allah: NOTE: The revelation, of course, is that God will deliver doom to nonbelievers.
42:18 Those who do not believe in it would hasten it on, and those who believe are in fear from it, and they know that it is the truth. Now most surely those who dispute obstinately concerning the hour are in a great error. NOTE: The nonbelievers do not fear “the hour.” They will also feel the wrath of Allah.
43:35 And (other) embellishments of gold; and all this is naught but provision of this world's life, and the hereafter is with your Lord only for those who guard (against evil). NOTE: Gold, silver, etc. is only for this world and only those who guard against such evil will be with their Lord in the afterworld; for all else, hellfire.
44:16 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution.
45:27 And Allah's is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; and on the day when the hour shall come to pass, on that day shall they perish who say false things.
47:25 Surely (as for) those who return on their backs
after that guidance has become manifest to them, the Shaitan
has made it a light matter to them; and He gives them respite. NOTE:

CALCULATION
The confidence interval for proportion is p +/- z("/2)√(p*q/n)
Where,
p = Proportion from Sample
q = 1 - p
n = Sample Size
z("/2) represents
the z-value under a normal curve on a Z-chart that leaves an area of "/2 to the
right
Therefore,
.527 +/- 1.96*√(.527*.473/201)
=.527 +/- .069
Therefore with 95% confidence, we can say the proportion
is somewhere between 45.8% and 59.6%.
